I have been using Outlook Express or Microsoft Outlook one or the other for long time. Each one having few GB in emails. Recently, when I found Microsoft Outlook sluggish, I started using Outlook Express.

Last week I thought I upgrade myself to MS Office 2007 Ultimate. These days I do not upgrade very easily. I had been using MS Office 2000 for long.

After secuirty updates and all, installation went OK. On first start, my Laptop with Windows XP, 512 MB RAM become extremely slow.

When I opened Outlook Express 2002, it would load with error message to re-install. When open Microsoft Outlook, it will error out on send/receive with not enough memory.

I bought and installed additional 512 MB RAM, but same error in both. Other applications started working quite fast.

For Outlook Express, I went to net to find whether it was a common problem. Yes, it was. My Address Book got corrupted due to security upgrade. I found following fix - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917288/

Latest Address Book could not be imported as it was totally useless due to security upgrade. Luckily, I had one old backup, using that I restored Address Book. Outlook Express started working fine.

For Microsoft Outlook, I backup all data and then deleted all mails from various folders. I then did maintenance by compacting data. This way, I made it to send/receive emails.
